Huppenkothen, a leading provider of construction machinery and spare parts, recognized the importance of accurately translating their English and German manuals into the Slovenian language.
Partnering with GORR, a trusted translation service, Huppenkothen aimed to overcome the challenges of clarity with their thorough, complex documents while also ensuring consistency in terminology and maintaining impeccable formatting. Translating operating manuals for construction machinery posed several challenges for the team at GORR. Right at the beginning, the sheer size of the documents, some well over 100,000 words, required meticulous attention to detail and time-intensive translation processes. Any lack of organization or preparedness on our end could have easily ended in inconsistencies and mistranslations. For this reason, great care was taken with the allocation and implementation of this project.
Moving on, the complex terminology spanned not only over the construction industry, but also over the machinery, and automotive industries. This, naturally, demanded specialized knowledge and expertise from translators. Fortunately, at GORR, our translators go beyond translation with industry knowledge and years of expertise in specified fields. This made finding the perfect match for this project easy.
Ensuring consistency in terminology across a single document and among various manuals presented another hurdle to the GORR translators. This is particularly true with files of such detail and magnitude. Formatting the translated files to match the original layout and design specifications posed yet another significant challenge albeit one more technical in nature.
To address these challenges, GORR implemented meticulous file preparation techniques before importing the documents into their translation tools. This involved the use of Optical Character Recognition (OCR) to extract text from pdf documents and detailed layout tweaks to preserve the integrity of the original design. By investing time and effort in pre-translation file preparation, GORR minimized formatting discrepancies and streamlined the translation process as much as possible.
To address these challenges effectively, GORR adopted a strategic approach focused on consistency, quality, and, above all, attention to detail. GORR assembled a dedicated team comprising two translators, one devoted to the English-Slovenian document and the other to the German-Slovenian document, and one revisor possessing specialized knowledge in construction machinery and related fields. By working closely with a select group of experienced translators from their talent pool, GORR ensured that the translation team was well-equipped to handle the technical nuances of the content.
Central to GORR’s approach was the maintenance of a comprehensive term base, constantly updated to ensure consistency in terminology across all documents. By leveraging this term base, GORR facilitated seamless communication and clarity within the translated manuals. The translators and revisor also collaborated closely to ensure both accuracy and cohesion in the translated content, taking care to adhere to industry-specific terminology and standards.
Furthermore, GORR provided end-to-end solutions by not only translating the content but also conducting final layout adjustments and a rigorous in-house quality assessment to deliver print-ready files to Huppenkothen.
