As globalization brings our world closer than ever before, the demand for comprehensive and accessible language-teaching tools has never been higher. Deutschfuchs, a trailblazer in digital language education, sought to expand its reach and effectiveness by offering its German language teaching application in three additional languages: Serbian (Cyrillic script), Korean, and Pashto.
This ambitious project aimed not only to make learning German more accessible but also to bridge cultural and linguistic gaps. This task was entrusted to GORR Language Service Provider, well-known for our expertise in handling complex translation projects.
The project’s primary challenge lay in the languages’ diversity and complexity. Serbian (Cyrillic script), Korean, and Pashto each possess unique grammatical structures and subtleties that significantly differ from German.
For instance, Korean lacks a true plural form, necessitating creative solutions to convey the concept of plurality. Similarly, Pashto presented difficulties as certain words had no direct translation from German, requiring the creation of transcriptions specifically for these terms. The inclusion of Serbian added yet another layer of complexity by necessitating the adaptation of adjectives into all three gender forms.
Coordinating a team of translators across different time zones naturally added a variety of logistical hurdles to the project. Furthermore, finding translators proficient in the specific language combinations, especially for less common pairs like German-Pashto, proved to be a daunting task. However, our well-connected project managers are able to find professional matches for even the most unexpected language combinations.
To address the aforementioned linguistic challenges, GORR adopted several innovative strategies. For the issue of plurality in Korean, special markings were utilized to indicate all plural forms, ensuring clarity without altering the language’s natural structure. In Pashto, where certain German words had no direct counterparts, our team created transcriptions, allowing for accurate conveyance of meaning while maintaining readability. For Serbian, the translation team meticulously adjusted adjectives to reflect all three gender forms, which required a great amount of time and effort to guarantee precision.
GORR leveraged its global network of linguists and employed strategic project management techniques to overcome the logistical challenges of time zone differences and translator availability. By establishing a flexible workflow and utilizing real-time communication tools, GORR ensured that project milestones were met efficiently.
